Cost Accounting Manager

Job Summary

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's cost accounting function, driving profitability analysis, and controlling manufacturing and operational expenditures. This role establishes standard costing systems, monitors raw material and inventory valuation, analyzes cost variances, and provides strategic insights into product margins.

Working closely with operations, supply chain, and executive finance, the Cost Accounting Manager identifies cost-saving opportunities, ensures inventory accuracy through robust audit protocols, and converts cost data into actionable strategies that improve gross margins.

Job Description

• Maintain and enhance the organization's standard costing system, including direct labor rates, material costs, and overhead allocation methodologies.
• Conduct annual and mid-year re-standardization of bill or materials and production routings.
• Perform cost rollups for new and modified products, evaluating margins prior to commercial launch.
• Analyze monthly manufacturing and operational cost variances.
• Partner with plant/operations managers to investigate root causes of variances and implement corrective action plans.
• Monitor key driver metrics, including scrap, rework, cycle times, and yield losses.
• Oversee inventory valuation in compliance with accounting standards.
• Direct periodic inventory counts and cycle count programs; review and approve inventory adjustments.
• Evaluate slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory, calculating appropriate reserves and write-offs.
• Prepare comprehensive Cost of Goods Sold reports, gross margin schedule, and operational bridge analyses for executive management.
