Job Summary
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and ensuring that all mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, air conditioning (HVAC), and horizontal development works are executed in accordance with the approved plans, technical specifications, applicable codes and standards, project requirements, and client expectations. The Mechanical Inspector conducts site inspections, coordinates with contractors and consultants, identifies construction deficiencies, and ensures quality workmanship throughout project execution until project completion and turnover.
Duties and Responsibilities
Mechanical Works
- Inspect and monitor the installation of mechanical systems in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Verify compliance of installed mechanical equipment with project requirements and manufacturer recommendations.
- Conduct quality inspections for pumps, generators, exhaust systems, ventilation systems, pressure vessels, and other mechanical equipment.
- Ensure proper installation, alignment, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
- Review contractor's method statements, shop drawings, and material submittals related to mechanical works.
Plumbing and Sanitary Works
- Inspect installation of water supply, sanitary, sewer, storm drainage, and vent piping systems.
- Verify proper installation of valves, pumps, water tanks, fixtures, and plumbing accessories.
- Witness hydrostatic testing, leak testing, flushing, and disinfection activities.
- Ensure plumbing installations comply with the National Plumbing Code and approved plans.
Fire Protection Systems (FPFS)
- Inspect installation of fire protection piping, sprinkler systems, fire hose cabinets, standpipes, fire pumps, jockey pumps, valves, and related equipment.
- Verify installation of fire suppression systems in accordance with approved fire protection plans.
- Witness pressure testing, flushing, and functional testing of fire protection systems.
- Coordinate with relevant consultants and authorities during inspections and testing.
Air Conditioning and Ventilation (HVAC)
- Inspect installation of air conditioning units, chilled water systems, refrigerant piping, ductworks, ventilation systems, and exhaust systems.
- Verify equipment locations, pipe routing, insulation, supports, and balancing requirements.
- Witness testing, balancing, commissioning, and operational checks of HVAC systems.
- Ensure installations comply with approved mechanical plans and manufacturer's recommendations.
Horizontal Development Works
- Inspect mechanical-related works for horizontal development projects, including:
- Water distribution systems
- Sewer collection systems
- Storm drainage systems
- Pump stations
- Utility pipelines
- Irrigation systems (when applicable)
- Verify underground utility installations before backfilling.
- Ensure proper elevations, slopes, bedding, and compaction requirements are achieved.
- Coordinate inspections for utility crossings and infrastructure interfaces.
Quality Assurance and Inspection
- Conduct regular site inspections and prepare inspection reports.
- Monitor contractor workmanship and ensure compliance with approved quality standards.
- Identify non-conforming works and recommend corrective actions.
- Verify completion of punch list items before project turnover.
- Witness material inspections and testing activities.
Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly accomplishment and inspection reports.
- Maintain inspection records, checklists, and quality documentation.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, requests for inspection (RFI), and inspection requests (IR).
- Document construction issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, consultants, contractors, architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to resolve construction issues.
- Attend coordination meetings, progress meetings, and technical discussions.
- Assist in resolving technical concerns affecting mechanical works.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with project safety requirements and applicable regulations.
- Monitor contractor compliance with safety procedures during installation and testing activities.
- Report unsafe work practices and recommend corrective measures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Preferably a Licensed Mechanical Engineer (RME).
- At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction inspection, project management, or mechanical engineering works.
- Experience in residential, commercial, mixed-use, or horizontal development projects is an advantage.
- Knowledgeable in mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and horizontal infrastructure systems.
- Familiar with applicable Philippine codes, standards, and construction practices.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and construction documentation software.
- Willing to work on project sites and travel as required.
