Shadow Teacher (Special Need Students)

IMPORTANT:

• This job is for NTB residence only.

• This is a part time job, meaning that the employee will only work during school operational time. There is no payment during school holidays.

Key Responsibilities

1. Classroom Learning Support

• Attend classes with assigned student(s).

• Help students understand teacher instructions, learning objectives, and classroom expectations.

• Clarify vocabulary, concepts, and instructions using age-appropriate language.

• Provide brief explanations when students struggle to understand classroom lessons.

• Encourage students to actively participate in discussions and classroom activities.

2. Academic Assistance

• Support students in organizing their work and completing classroom assignments.

• Check that students understand homework and project requirements.

• Help students develop effective study habits and learning strategies.

• Provide additional practice when necessary, under the direction of the classroom teacher.

3. Collaboration

• Work closely with classroom teachers to understand lesson objectives and student expectations.

• Communicate regularly with the Student Support Team regarding student progress.

• Attend meetings related to assigned students when requested.

• Share observations about learning progress and areas requiring additional support.

4. Student Well-being

• Help new students adjust to the school environment and classroom routines.

• Encourage confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviors.

• Promote respectful relationships with classmates and teachers.

• Support students emotionally during their transition into an English-speaking learning environment.

5. Documentation

• Maintain brief records of student progress.

• Document significant observations regarding language development and classroom participation.

• Provide progress updates to supervisors when requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Psychology, or a related field (preferred).

• Good spoken and written English.

• Experience working with children or students is preferred.

• Understanding of second-language acquisition is an advantage.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Patient, supportive, and culturally sensitive.

Important Note

The Shadow Teacher is not the primary classroom teacher. Their role is to support the special needs students in following the lesson into the classroom while encouraging the student to become an independent learner.
