Position Summary

In collaboration with the Brown School’s Office of Admissions & Recruitment, Brown Application Reviewers (BARs) will review, summarize, and evaluate applications for graduate school admissions for Master level programs in Social Work and Social Policy. Essential work includes reading, evaluating, and summarizing components of graduate prospective student applications (such as evaluating various professional and volunteer experiences; reviewing undergraduate and post-baccalaureate academics; assessing applicants’ writing and essays; identifying the strengths, talents, resiliency and potential of applicants). BARs will be expected to holistically analyze the quality and depth of applicant experiences and accomplishments within the context of individual applicants’ opportunities. They will thoughtfully consider and summarize applicants’ individual circumstances, contribution, and personal histories. Extensive training is provided. BARS must work independently and in a timely manner following admission guidelines. They will be required to attend training sessions in late October, be available from November through April, and evaluate prospective graduate school applicants using a thorough, holistic and confidential admissions review process. Access to a personal computer and high-speed internet are required.

This is a remote position with a flexible schedule, but BARS are expected to work 10–15 hours per week on average.
